ALEX - A Mobile Interactive Experience
A passion project for the Alex Thoresen Legacy Foundation and partnership with the University Of Michigan’s CS Mott Children’s Hospital which I was humbled and honored to be a part of.
ALEX is meant to be the beginning of something great. A mobile kiosk/station that can change the way teenagers and young adult patients play their favorite video games in the hospital. More importantly, Alex helps patients feel like normal teenagers and young adults during their stay for treatment.

Inspiration
Mobility, form factor, technology, and hospital cleanliness standards for surfaces were all be factored into the initial phases of the design process. However, it’s gaming after all, and cool is key!
Concept Development
3D Visualization - Concept 1
This future forward concept combines a modern design aesthetic and easy to clean components. Smooth non-textured surfaces are hospital compliant for the effective use of sanitizing cleaners. Design details also include: Large grab bars to access the gaming canister interior and general movement of the station - Articulated elements for the player to fine tune game play and comfort - LED lighting accents for ambiance.
3D Visualization - Concept 2
The “Mech” theme really just fits with the gamer personification. A unique design should give a unique experience for the player. It’s not meant to just feel like another piece of hardware, it should feel like and extension of the gamer world.
